Director of Operations
For Avery, Derr & Isbell is like the story of the prodigal son coming home. Avery originally started with Derr Construction in 1989 until 2000 and returned March 2015 as Director of Operations -Steel Division. During his absence Avery was Steel Division Manager for Azteca Enterprises in Dallas for 8 years, after resigning he returned to his childhood playground, the Gulf of Mexico. He and his wife took over a neglected RV park and fishing pier on the Bolivar Peninsula. They invested hard work, time and money while enjoying all the blessings of beach life, and then along came Hurricane Ike. After the park and pier were wiped out Avery returned to construction as a superintendent for Deep South Crane and Rigging.
Avery joined the Army Reserves after high school, in 1982 he enrolled in the Texas Iron Workers Apprenticeship School Local 84. Since graduating in 1985 Avery has continued his education through mini courses and OSHA classes.
In his spare time Avery enjoys being with his wife of 33 years L’dell, they have been blessed with two daughters, 2 son in laws and four grandchildren. Saltwater fishing is never far from his mind, a rod in his hand and a prayer in his heart.
